So, you’ve finally made your mind and now you want to become a camgirl. If you think that you’ve embarked on a glamorous journey where money comes running into your pocket in an instant and are happy all the time, well… it isn’t always like that. Camming DOES have some major drawbacks that you’ll have to take into account; and some of them can be pretty tough to go through. We don’t want to discourage you in any way (there are lots of models that have/had success, but as in any trade, there are also the ones that failed), but you DO need to know the drawbacks a career in camming has. Ready?

The career timeline is pretty short

You can be earning some big bucks if you’re lucky, but what happens once you start aging, or your life priorities need to change? Unfortunately, we believe that a lot of cam models will be stuck in this situation, with a big blank in their resume and no way of getting a well-paying job beyond adult work. It definitely can limit your options in the future, if you decide to leave the industry.

No benefits or paid time off

Say what you will about having a corporate job, but at least it does (usually) provide you with some medical/dental benefits, and a paid time off for any emergencies or just mental health days, in addition to vacation time. As a camgirl, you don’t have that luxury, so you need to plan your vacation around camming, and get used to not getting paid whenever you get sick and can’t be online. You’re also on your own when it comes to taking care of your medical expenses, so that might be tricky to tackle sometimes.

Associated stigma

The adult work’s stigma, though lessening, is not going away too soon. Most camgirls have to lie to their family and friends about where they work, and that can be a big emotional burden to carry. Although most of them don’t give an F, for some the stigma can be heartbreaking, and can take its toll pretty hard on mental health of self-esteem.

Isolation

Isolation and lack of healthy social interaction is a very real problem for camgirl, because you get so wrapped up in the industry that sometimes you can kind of lose yourself. If you want to make the big bucks, you have to be online A LOT. You’ll have little time to tend to social interactions. That can pretty much damage your way of life, if you’re used to hanging out with your friends, family or loved ones often.

Scams and Harassment

Unfortunately, scams, harassment, and even stalking in some cases, are common in the camming industry. Yes, it’s very likely that you’ll encounter some of them as a cam model. It does come with the job, as there are members on camming platforms who think that it’s okay to harass, intimidate, or even blackmail camgirls. It’s pretty disgusting behavior, and there is little you can do while it’s happening, but you CAN protect yourself ahead of time.

Despite all the negative elements, many camgirls LOVE their job, and feel that it’s the best thing that has ever happened to them. We tend to agree (if you can be smart about minimizing your risks, and be realistic about your earning potential) you can absolutely have a great career in camming and enjoy its benefits for years to come.
